Reducing Dependency on Public Resources:  Helping People Move to Employment

2005 NCSL Annual Meeting, Seattle, Washington

August 18, 2005
9:00 am- 10:00 am
NCSL Labor and Workforce Development Standing Committee

Considerable state and federal resources are used to maintain benefit systems that create disincentives for individuals to work or gain economic independence.  Some states have developed a comprehensive approach to meeting the needs of individuals who need employment rather than maintaining separate efforts.  This session examined how states can create partnerships among the workforce development system, TANF system, disability organizations and other groups to provide the resources and supports necessary to assist individuals with complex needs to obtain employment.  Moderator: Representative Nan Orrock, Georgia
