Why Latino Students?
Latinos make up the fastest growing segment of the nation's college-age population (ages 18-25). With a total population approaching 40 million, Latinos are the largest ethnic group in the U.S. and will constitute one-fifth of the nation's workforce by 2025. Yet only 11 percent of Latinos currently earn a college degree by age 25. This population can experience a unique array of barriers that range from language acquisition and social acculturation to poverty and low performing schools.
Undoubtedly, today’s Latino students will be a major part of tomorrow’s workforce. In the workplace of the future, all workers will need more education—not less. Focusing on the education of Latinos is an investment in a state's, and the nation's, economic and social future.
