MISSION STATEMENT

Adopted April 2008

Connecting legislative education staff since 1986

Purpose Statement

The Legislative Education Staff Network (LESN) is a joint initiative of the National Conference of State Legislatures and the Education Commission of the States whose purpose is to encourage and promote interaction among legislative staff on critical public education issues, the laws governing such education, and the policies and costs of public educational systems across the country.  The LESN represents all legislative staff with responsibility for education policy. 

Mission Statement

The mission of the LESN is to strengthen the capabilities of legislative education staff to support legislative institutions and individual legislators in developing strong and effective state education laws and policies by providing opportunities for them to:

  • network with other legislative staff and with other state, federal, and local education professionals
  • obtain professional development and training
  • access information and research on targeted education policy issues
  • collaborate with education policy experts
  • provide technical assistance to other legislative staff on education initiatives and
  • partner with other education stakeholders, including business, nonprofit organizations, and education associations
