Using Research to Inform Policy:
Strategies for Legislative Education Staff

Legislative staff will participate in a discussion about how to keep up on the latest research and to discern whether it’s relevant their state work.  They also will discuss efforts to inform their legislative members of relevant research and to increase their use of research in their policy work.

As a legislative staffer, to what extent do I use research to inform my policy work?  What are some strategies for increasing my use of research to inform my policy work?  What obstacles am I likely to encounter in increasing my use of research, and how can I work around them?
