Legislative Education Chairs Network

The Legislative Education Chairs Network (ECN) was created to bring the chairs of education committees together to discuss current policy trends and effective strategies. ECN provides the opportunity to network with education chairs from other states, meet representatives from education agencies and organizations, access a clearinghouse of information, and interact with researchers and experts in the field. The Education Chairs Network is co-sponsored by NCSL and the Education Commission of the States (ECS).

Education chairs are encouraged to engage in dialogue through a semiannual newsletter, the Education Chairs Network listserv, and the annual Education Chairs Network seminar.

  • ECN publishes Education Chairs Network News, a semiannual newsletter in which education chairs write articles about current education policies under consideration or enacted and other education issues. The newsletter includes information about upcoming meetings and other professional opportunities.

  • The Education Chairs Network listserv is a vehicle for education chairs nationwide to discuss current education issues and for NCSL and ECS to disseminate relevant information about timely and important topics in education. In addition, it serves as a tool to inform network members about upcoming events and meetings. The list is a free and private listserv to be used only by education chairs, NCSL and ECS.

  • ECN holds meetings each year in conjunction with the ECS Annual Forum and the NCSL Annual Meeting and Exhibition. Issues for the meetings target the informational needs of legislative chairs. In addition, NCSL and ECS hold one meeting a year designed exclusively for education chairs to explore current education issues.

For information about the ECN, contact the Education Department at (303) 364-7700.
