Federally Funded Drug Testing Program
Since 2003, the U.S. Department of Education has awarded grants to school districts to assist in the implementation of random drug testing programs for students in grades 6-12.
President Bush's FY 2007 budget proposes an increase of $4.6 million, for a total of $15 million, for student drug testing programs. This initiative provides competitive grants to support schools in the design and implementation of programs to screen randomly selected students and to intervene with assessment, referral and intervention for students whose test results indicate they have used illicit drugs.
