Updated February 8, 2000

Return to Economic Development & Trade

An investment tax credit provides a tax credit of some percentage of recently acquired real or tangible property used for business purposes. It is applied to the corporate income tax. States usually provide that unused portions of the tax credit can be carried forward from one year to the next. The purpose is to reduce the cost of investments to the investor.
