State child welfare agencies are engaging myriad players in ongoing system reform efforts, including the Child and Family Services Review (CFSR) and Program Improvement Plan (PIP) processes. Among the key stakeholders with whom State agencies are working during the second round of CFSRs and PIPs are State legislators.

This hour-long audio conference provided information on factors that influence both legislative attitudes toward child welfare agencies and agency-legislator working relationships. It also addressed strategies to improve legislator-agency communication. Speakers included the following:

  • Cindy Perry, Executive Director, Tennessee Select Committee on Children and Youth, Tennessee General Assembly
  • Sue McKenna, Assistant Director, Children and Family Services, Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services
  • Jeanne Milstein, Child Advocate, Connecticut Office of the Child Advocate
