Dr. Deborah Daro, Chapin Hall Center for Children at the University of Chicago

Dr. Daro will discuss what the research currently says about child abuse prevention strategies, lessons learned and suggestions for state policymakers.

The Centers for Disease Control: Overview of Child Maltreatment Activities

Dr. Rodney Hammond, Director of the Division of Violence Prevention of the Centers for Disease Control's National Center for Injury Prevention and Control

Dr. Hammond will talk about the goals and activities of the CDC's Division of Violence Prevention of the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control in defining the problem of child maltreatment, identifying risk and protective factors, developing and testing prevention strategies, and assuring widespread adoption of effective interventions.

The Centers for Disease Control: Developing and Testing Child Maltreatment Prevention Strategies

Dr. John Lutzker, Chief of the Prevention Development and Evaluation Branch of the Centers for Disease Control's National Center for Injury Prevention and Control

Dr. Lutzker will discuss the CDC's work to develop and test a variety of child abuse prevention strategies. These include a multi-level parent training effectiveness trial project being tested at the University of South Carolina and two projects of the Oklahoma Department of Human Services. Dr. Lutzker will also comment on a recent review of home visitation programs conducted by the Task Force for Community Preventive Services.

Preventing Child Abuse and Neglect through Early Care and Education

Judy Langford, Senior Fellow, Center for the Study of Social Policy

Ms. Langford will discuss the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation's program at the Center for the Study of Social Policy to explore the capacity of early care and education settings (such as childcare and early childhood programs) to play a critical role in child abuse and neglect prevention.
