NCSL’s Banking Partners Project Steering Committee met on Wednesday, July
21st in Salt Lake City, Utah. Committee members present included:
Representative Donna Stone, Delaware, Chair of the Steering Committee;
Representative David Clark, Utah; Delegate Harvey Morgan, Virginia;
Representative William Thigpen, Alabama; Ryan Wilson, Maryland Department of
Legislative Services; Paul Richmann, Mortgage Bankers Association; Carol
Stewart, Community Financial Services Association; Danielle Faegre and Greg
Williams, American Financial Services Association; Sharon Hermanson and Mary
Wallace, AARP; Spencer Hathaway, AARP Consultant; Nancy DeGrandi, CUNA; Caroline
Carlson, Foundation for State Legislatures; Heather Morton and Jo Anne
Bourquard, NCSL.
Members discussed and made the following recommendations regarding the
project deliverables as follows:
Project Sessions
- Financial Privacy in the Global Economy, held on July 20, 2004, at
the NCSL Annual Meeting in Salt Lake City, Utah.
- Session to be held in conjunction with the NCSL Fall Forum in Savannah,
Georgia, December 8-10, 2004. This session could feature a discussion
regarding the upcoming Conference of State Bank Supervisors and National
Association of Consumer Credit Administrators Payday Lending Regulatory Summit
(June 6-10, 2004).
- Session to be held in conjunction with the NCSL Spring Forum in
Washington, D.C., April 13-16, 2005. This session will focus on
financial literacy and will highlight the release of the legislators “tool
kit.”
Written Products
- NCSL staff is preparing a “tool kit” for legislators to use in their
communities on financial literacy. The “tool kit” should include copies
of model bills, information on how to organize a public fair or expo on
financial literacy, a sample op-ed piece, and provide information on existing
Web site information.
Web Site
- The project has developed a Web page on the NCSL Web site to provide
access to project information and links to information about the
issue.
