Senator Bramble Elected Vice President of NCSL

Utah State lawmaker poised to become national organization's president in two years

ATLANTA – Utah State Senator Curt Bramble was elected vice president of the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL), a bipartisan organization that serves the nation’s 7,383 state lawmakers and legislative staff. He takes office today, at NCSL's Legislative Summit in Atlanta.

Senator Bramble will serve one year as vice president, ascend to president-elect the following year, and then become president at the NCSL Legislative Summit in 2015.

"From an urgent policy-making perspective, I don't know of a more critical moment in our nation's history since the American Revolution," said Bramble.  "We face challenges, but we also have the experience and brainpower to arrive at solutions – and the best solutions are to be found among the geniuses and patriots of America's laboratories of democracy, the states."

"NCSL is the training ground and voice for America's states & territories.  It is innovative, bi-partisan, and constructive.  We will continue to work to add value for our sister states as well as our partners in the federal government."

Senator Bramble was elected to serve Utah's 16th senate district in 2000. His senate assignments have included Majority Leader, plus Chairmanships of the Revenue and Tax, Business and Labor, and Retirement Committees. He currently serves as Senate President Pro Tem.

Senator Bramble's NCSL work includes service on the Executive Committee, the Committee on Committees, the Immigration Task Force and State and Local Tax Task Force.

In a congratulatory statement, Utah Senate Minority Leader Gene Davis said, "Senator Bramble is an experienced leader who is committed to good governance and teamwork. He will be an asset to NCSL."

Utah Senate President Wayne Niederhauser said, "Through many years of close association with Curt Bramble, we know first-hand the experience and value he will bring to NCSL.  He is brilliant and unstoppable.  He is passionate about finding solutions to the complex issues that face our country. Curt has proven to be a capable leader here in Utah, and we're excited to share that ability with NCSL as they work toward their mission of ensuring that state legislatures have a strong, cohesive voice in the federal system."

After beginning his college career at the University of Notre Dame, Bramble earned his Bachelors and Masters degree in Accounting from Brigham Young University. He founded Bramble & Company CPAs, which has since merged with Gilbert & Stewart CPAs in Provo.

Senator Bramble lives in Provo, Utah, with his wife Susie. They have six children and six grandchildren. When the Utah Legislature is not in session, Bramble works as a CPA.  In his free time, he hikes, boats and flies hot air balloons.

NCSL is a bipartisan organization that serves the legislators and staffs of the states, commonwealths and territories. It provides research, technical assistance and opportunities for policymakers to exchange ideas on the most pressing state issues and is an effective and respected advocate for the interests of the states in the American federal system.
