Regulatory Reform (joint with Budgets and Revenue)

Government agencies issue thousands of regulations every year to protect the general public and ensure safety standards. However, some feel that regulations have gone too far and are too onerous and costly, particularly for small businesses. As a result, lawmakers in several states have enacted major regulatory reform measures to improve the business climate and create new jobs. This session will examine the fiscal implications of regulations and look at recent state activity.

Growing American Jobs in a Competitive Global Economy

U.S. businesses have sent thousands of jobs overseas in the last decade, adding to the current economic downturn and unemployment woes. This session will examine the migration of jobs and professional services overseas and discuss what states can do to address the issue.

Employment Support for Military Families (joint with Women’s Legislative Network)

When military service members receive orders to transfer from one state to another, they often have spouses and children that make the move with them. Many military families depend on the non-enlisted spouse’s income, and cross-country moves can be disruptive. Learn about state actions to support military spousal employment and Department of Defense resources for military families.
