NCSL Spring/Fall Forums

NCSL's twelve Standing Committees, with jurisdictions similar to those of state legislative committees, meet three times a year at the Spring and Fall Forums and the Legislative Summit to discuss critical issues facing the states. In coming together, the Standing Committees allow legislators and staff to benefit from the experiences of other states in shaping public policy, experimenting with new laws, managing the legislative institutions and developing policies that guide NCSL's lobbying efforts in Washington, D.C.  NCSL is nationally recognized as a formidable lobbying force in state-federal relations.

Spring Forum 2009 -Summary

More than 675 individuals attended the NCSL Spring Forum 2009, April 22-25, at the Marriott Wardman Park in Washington, DC. Participants in the Spring Forum Standing Committee meetings discussed a variety of issues including The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, state budget balancing strategies, transportation funding, climate change, improving student achievement, social networking, redistricting and much more. 

This year's meeting, and the Spring meeting in 2010, will be held at the Marriott Wardman Park in the Woodley Park area in northwest Washington, D.C.  See and hear what took place at the 2009 Spring Forum by viewing our meeting highlights.

A highlight of the meeting was a reception at the Peoples' Republic of China Embassy, hosted by Ambassador, Zhou Wenshong. The meeting provided an opportunity to exchange information and strengthen relationships with China at the state level.
