The Fall Forum is the only meeting of its kind to bring together legislators and legislative staff to discuss pressing topics for the states.
The October/November issue looks at the oil boom in North Dakota and brings to mind an old saying:"Be careful what you wish for."
Volunteer opportunity sponsored by the Legislative Staff Coordinating Committee and NCSL.
Voluntourism mixes the customary elements of travel with giving back to the community. This year, NCSL is teaming up with United Through Reading® Military Program hosted by the USO.
The program helps to connect deployed military parents and adults with the children in their lives by recording service-members reading books aloud and sending them to their children. Select a book from the list and either bring a new copy with you to the Summit and drop it off at the bookstore or purchase it at the NCSL bookstore in the convention center.
(Please contribute only those books that are listed on the booklist.)
Reading Program Helps Families Cope with Deployment
“My wife wrote me that my daughter watches her video everyday and that she answers my questions each time as though I were right [there] asking them. Apparently she has been missing her Daddy pretty badly, and my wife said that now when she mentions me that she just puts in the movie and that it seems to help.” - United Through Reading Participant, USS O’Kane (DDG 77)
