Overview
Since Congress enacted the MOVE (Military and Overseas Voting Empowerment) Act in 2009 year to help guarantee that voters who reside out of the country have their votes counted, states have been passing laws to implement the Act. The Federal Voting Assistance Program recently issued preliminary guidance for states to use in implementing the Act. This session explores what do these guidelines say and what legislatures need to do to fully implement MOVE. The session also will look at the recently approved model state law for military and overseas citizens from the Uniform Law Commission and how that proposal compares with the MOVE Act.
