Speaker
Representative Dan Flynn, Texas

Overview

Representative Dan Flynn (R) of Texas co-authored  Texas’ voter ID legislation this year. He says he’s motivated by a commonsense belief: “Everybody gets to vote once, and you can’t be dead to vote.”

Flynn is a native Texan who serves House District 2. He is currently serving on the House Committee on Defense and Veterans’ Affairs as well as homeland Security and Public Safety. He has been an active and valued participant with NCSL for years.

His interest in voter ID requirements for Texas stem in part from a sense that citizens lack confidence in the election system, and this is one way to raise that confidence. He also points out that voter ID was one of four top priorities for Texas voters, along with border security, budgetary shortfalls and jobs.
