  • Seventeen states have passed photo ID laws.

 

 

Proposals to require voters to show photographic identification at the polls continue to be debated in state legislatures across the country. By the end of 2012, 17 states had passed legislation requiring voters to show photo IDs. So far in 2013, at least 17 states have introduced or plan to introduce photo ID bills. Advocates of these laws believe photo ID requirements prevent voter fraud, while opponents fear they may disenfranchise eligible voters.
