Mozambique – U.S. Legislative Strengthening Program: Staff Leadership and Training Workshop

On March 12th – 15th, NCSL conducted the fourth successful training workshop of the Mozambique–U.S. Legislative Program. The Staff Leadership and Training Workshop was carried out by a NCSL faculty team including Representative Jay Kaufman from Massachusetts and Representative Joan Ballweg from Wisconsin. NCSL will conduct its fifth training workshop in May with Senator Ellen Roberts, NCSL Executive Committee Member; Senator Verna Jones-Rodwell, Co-Chair for NCSL's International Relations Task Force; and Representative Phil Lopes, Minority Leader in the Arizona State House of Representatives.

Scottish Parliament Delegation Visit to NCSL

From April 8th through April 9th, the International Programs department of NCSL welcomed a small delegation from the Scottish Parliament to include the Rt. Honorable Tricia Marwick, Presiding Officer (Speaker) of the Scottish Parliament to Washington, D.C. During their stay in the city, the International Programs department arranged several meetings with the delegations’ counterparts in the U.S. Congress, at the U.S. Department of State and at the Library of Congress.

International Attendees at NCSL's Annual Legislative Summit

The National Conference of State Legislatures will host its 39th annual Legislative Summit in Atlanta, GA and anticipate hosting over 200 international attendees from over 20 countries. The International Program will begin Sunday, August 11th, 2013. Legislators, parliamentarians and staff will spend five days discussing policy issues, hearing from renowned speakers, sharing innovative ideas, and exploring the beautiful city of Atlanta.

Partnership of Parliaments (PoP) Delegation attends NCSL's 2013 Spring Forum

From May 2nd through May 4th, NCSL welcomed a 31-member delegation from the Partnership of Parliaments, to include members from Germany and Austria to the 2013 Spring Forum in Denver, Colorado.  During their stay, the delegation will attend forum sessions, as well as meetings with key Colorado State Legislators, including Senate Minority Leader, Bill Cadman and House Minority Leader, Mark Waller.

NCSL is seeking fluent French speakers

The International Programs department at NCSL is looking for fluent French speakers to participate in legislative strengthening programs, specifically with experience in 1) lassification and archiving; 2) database development; and 3) human resources. We are looking for individuals with experience in workshop settings and those who have the ability and are comfortable giving presentations in a workshop setting. If you are interested and want to learn more, please send your resume to the Kathy Brennan Wiggins (kathy.wiggins@ncsl.org) and Courtney Bjorgaard (courtney.bjorgaard@ncsl.org) in the International Programs department.
 

Leaders for Democracy Fellowship Program

NCSL has the honor of hosting Mr. Yassir Yahya Al-Masoudi, from Yemen,  a fellow of the LDF program run by the U.S. Department of State and the Maxwell School at Syracuse University.  Mr. Al-Masoudi is a civil society activist who has been working in the medical services field in Hajjah since 2006 assisting with English translation and serving as the Editor of Al-Ekha Magazine among others. NCSL welcomes Mr. Al-Masoudi and looks frowar to his contributions to the International Programs department at NCSL.
