Sharpen your professional skills with state legislative colleagues from around the country at the 2014 LSSS & RACSS Joint Professional Development Seminar. Enjoy learning while experiencing the beauty and history of Richmond, Va. The seminar is a joint effort by the Research and Committee Staff Section and the Legal Services Staff Section, to facilitate shared learning among researchers, attorneys, committee staff, legal editors and drafters.
Attendees will participate in practical and informative sessions in a relaxed learning environment with many opportunities to network with legislative colleagues from other states. Presenters from academia, government and state legislatures will provide valuable information about witness testimony before legislative committees, U.S. Supreme Court decisions affecting the states, legal writing skills, multi-generational workplaces, managing biases, effective presentations, conducting 50-state research, evaluating resources, communications and more. Registration fees are:
- Early bird (through Sept. 12): $350
- Post early bird rate for legislative staff: $375
- Virginia host state discount: $295
- Spouse/guest: $150
- All others: $450
Spouse/Guest Registration. The $150 guest fee includes admission to all sessions and scheduled meal functions.
Cancellations. received in the NCSL Denver office by Oct. 5 will be refunded, minus a $50 processing fee. Cancellations must be made in writing and faxed to 303-364-7811. Fees cannot be refunded for registrations cancelled after the conference begins.

The Omni is located in the heart of downtown Richmond, just steps away from the Capitol. Please make your hotel reservations for the PDS by Sept. 15, 2014. When arranging hotel accommodations, please indicate that you are attending the NCSL conference to receive the negotiated rate of $149 per night (plus tax). Room are available until this date, or until sold out, whichever comes first. A credit card is required to guarantee your reservation.

Richmond is served by the Richmond International Airport. The Omni Richmond Hotel is approximately 10 miles from the airport. Cab fare is approximately $25 one way.

The seminar is a relaxed learning environment. Business casual attire and comfortable shoes are recommended for all seminar programs and activities.
Temperatures in Richmond can be in the 50s or 60s in October. Evenings and meeting rooms may be cool, so sweaters or jackets are recommended.
