Picture of Texas CapitolThe National Legislative Program Evaluation Society (NLPES) hosts the only national training event designed exclusively for state legislative staff who work in the program evaluation.

NLPES will host its Professional Development Seminar in Austin, Tex., at the DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Hotel—Austin. This year’s seminar will offer professional development opportunities for program evaluators of all skill levels.

Don’t miss this opportunity to meet your colleagues and hear about the innovative research and analytical work program evaluation offices around the country are doing. We hope to see you in the Lone Star State! 
 

REGISTRATION

Registration fees are:

  • Legislative staff: $350

  • Texas Host State Legislator/Legislative Staff (special authorization is required): $275

  • Other Government or Nonprofit: $350

  • Daily $150

  • Spouse/family member: $100

  • All others: $500

Please register by September 6, 2013. Four ways to register:

  • Register online
    Registration online requires a credit card for everyone except legislators and legislative staff. Confirmations will be sent by e-mail, and meeting materials will be mailed.

  • Mail the registration form to NCSL Registration/Accounting, 7700 East First Place, Denver, CO 80230.

  • Onsite Registration
    You can register at the DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Hotel-Austin.

Cancelations received in the NCSL Denver office by Sept. 20, 2013 will be refunded minus a $50 processing fee. Cancelations must be made in writing and faxed to 303.364.7811. Fees cannot be refunded for registrations canceled after the conference begins.

Confirmations will be e-mailed if an address is provided. Letter confirmations will be mailed upon request.

Each attendee is responsible for making his or her hotel and travel arrangements. When arranging hotel accommodations, please indicate that you are attending the NCSL conference to receive the negotiated rate of $174 per night (plus tax). Reservations must be held by one night room deposit (major credit card guarantee is acceptable). The cut-off date for the negotiated rate is Aug. 30, 2013.

TRAVEL INFORMATION

Air Travel
Austin is served by the Austin Bergstrom International Airport (AUS). To make flight reservations, call Christopherson Travel, the official travel agency of NCSL, at:

Airline reservations should be made at least seven days in advance. Christopherson Travel maintains a 24-hour toll-free line for changes and emergencies.
 
Ground Transportation
Shuttle service is available from the airport to the hotel through SuperShuttle / 1-800-BLUE VAN (258-3826).

The MetroAirport bus provides service into downtown Austin. The $1 bus fare takes you between the airport and downtown every 30 minutes on the hour and half hour.

Cabs also are available; fares are approximately $30 one way.

City Information
Situated in central Texas, Austin is the state's capital and fourth largest city.  It is renowned for its music; in fact, Austin's official slogan is The Live Music Capital of the World.  The city also is a hub for high tech, pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, and it is home to a wonderful ballet, world-class museums, one-of-a-kind shopping and beautiful outdoor spaces.
 
Austin enjoys a subtropical climate with mild and sunny weather, having around 300 days of sunshine each year.  September weather typically is mild, with average temperatures in the upper 80s to low 90s during the day and in the low 70s at night.
