  • Provide improved communications and foster better relations between legislative information systems professionals and the legislators and legislative staff they serve.

THE LEGISLATURE AS A CAREER

 

An initiative from the Legislative Staff Coordinating Committee is aimed at recruiting young people into legislative service. In the video at right, Carlos Galvan of the Texas Legislative Council discusses his role.

ELECTRONIC LEGAL MATERIAL

Several states have enacted the Uniform Electronic Legal Material Act (UELMA) and more will be considering legislation in 2015. UELMA allows each state the flexibility to choose its own technology for authentication and preserving their materials and allows for future technologies as the current technologies become obsolete. NALIT members in Calif. and Minn. have shared information about their implementation of UELMA.

AWARDS

TrophyNALIT presents awards in two categories each year: the Legislative Staff Achievement Award and the Online Democracy Award. Both awards are presented at the NCSL Legislative Summit. The winners of the 2014 Legislative Staff Achievement Award are the California Senate Internet Project Team and the Tennessee Dashboard Team. The Utah State Legislature's website won the 2014 Online Democracy Award.

NALIT HANDOUTS-LEGISLATIVE SUMMIT

Legislative Summit logoView handouts from NALIT sessions from the Legislative Summit in Minneapolis. NALIT sessions covered remote testimony and videoconferencing, recruiting and retaining technology talent, authentication of online legal information. In addition, NALIT members toured the Minnesota State Capitol and heard from staff in the information technology agencies in the House, Senate and Revisors offices.
