National Association of Legislative Fiscal Offices

NALFO word cloud NALFO is one of the 10 staff sections associated with the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL). NALFO welcomes all legislative staff involved in fiscal research and analysis. The purpose of the association is to improve the quality and effectiveness of legislative fiscal staff and the services they provide to state legislatures. NALFO does not charge dues and has no formal affiliation process. NALFO holds its annual business meeting in conjunction with NCSL's Annual Meeting.  This guide of the NALFO activities and NALFO officers responsibilities is designed to familiarize members with the organization and to help with planning for the year.

STEVEN GOLD AWARD

The award recognizes a person who has made a significant contribution to public financial management in the field of intergovernmental relations and state and local finance.

THE LEGISLATURE AS A CAREER

 

An initiative from the Legislative Staff Coordinating Committee is aimed at recruiting young people into legislative service. In the video at right, Kelly Dudley, a legislative fiscal analyst from Kentucky, discusses her role.

FISCAL ANALYSTS SEMINAR

Map of United States The annual NCSL Fiscal Analysts Seminar provides both the knowledge of national experts and the expertise of senior legislative staff who are policy experts in their states. This year's seminar was held in Annapolis, Md., Oct. 7-9, 2013. Presentations and meeting resources are now available online.
