America’s roads and bridges are plagued by age and growing demand, but with many states facing budget shortfalls, their capacity to pay for needed maintenance and expansion is stretched thin. How each state meets these challenges is shaped by its distinctive approach to governing and paying for transportation systems.  Until now, however, little has been known about how branches of state government work together to provide safe, reliable, effective and efficient transportation networks.

In this webinar, staff from the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) and the Center for Excellence in Project Finance at the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) discussed their recently released in-depth analysis of state transportation governance and finance, which is intended to help both legislatures and DOTs effectively serve the public good within often complex intergovernmental arrangements.
