State Laws: Electronic Solicitation or Luring of Children
The Internet can offer many educational resources and enriching experiences for children, but many parents are concerned about online threat to their safety. Forty-six states specifically prohibit electronic solicitation or use of a computer for the purpose of luring children. Laws noted with an asterisk (*) do not have specific references to electronic communication; however, they may still be used to prosecute these types of offenses.
The Crimes Against Children Resource Center at the University of New Hampshire and the U.S. Department of Justice have additional resources and statistics about child sexual exploitation and prevention.
