JOBS: Matching Skills with Employer Demand

Opportunities For Working Families: A Leadership Forum for State Lawmakers: June 27-29, 2011

Session Description

American employers are unable to find skilled workers to fill jobs that require more than a high school education but less than a four year degree. Experts agree that creating a skilled workforce requires a comprehensive approach shared by workforce agencies, community colleges, economic development and others. What is the role for state legislatures to assure that public spending matches marketable skills to meet demand?

About the Working Families Forum

Since 2003, the NCSL/AECF Partnership on Family Economic Success has held a yearly meeting to give lawmakers a chance to convene with their colleagues and discuss solutions to the challenges faced by low-income working families. Legislative leadership from 10 states send small teams of legislators to the forum. Participants hear from leading experts and practitioners and develop an action plan that is relevant to their state.
