The national unemployment rate was 9.1% in August.

The unemployment rate was at 9.1 percent in August, leaving 14 million workers looking for jobs, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. In fact, for every job opening last July, there were more than 4 unemployed workers. More than 6 million workers are considered long-term unemployed, having been without a job for more than 27 weeks. And it’s taking longer to find a job, with 11 percent of workers needing more than a year to land a new position.
