Working Families: A Legislative Point of View

Overview

Legislators and staff from 12 state teams attended the Opportunities for Working Families Leadership Forum in Denver, Colorado, June 24-26, 2012.

Listen as four participants discuss the most pressing issues for working families in their states, including unemployment, the rising cost of education, and the overall uncertainty about the future.

The Interviewees:

Representative C.B. Embry, Jr. (Kentucky - R), vice-chair of the Agriculture and Small Business Committee, conveys that having stable working families makes a state stronger.

Representative Terry Mills (Kentucky - D), vice-chair of the Agriculture and Small Business Committee, says it’s important to think outside the box to solve the challenges working families are confronting.

Senator Arthur Orr (Alabama - R), chair of the Finance and Taxation General Fund Committee, believes the economy and unemployment are the biggest challenges facing families in his state.

Representative Mary Helen Roberts (Washington - D), vice chair of the Early Learning and Human Services Committee, discusses job creation and workforce development.
