Policy in the States

Overview

A trauma system is designed to provide a continuum of intensive medical services that begins immediately following a traumatic injury and continues through hospital discharge.

EMS is an integral part of a trauma system that provides rapid response to emergencies, prehospital emergency care and transportation to an appropriate medical facility.

For patients with severe injuries, getting care at a Level I trauma center lowers the risk of death by 25 percent.

Trauma systems vary by state. This video is intended to provide an overview of the trauma system.
