Substance Abuse Legislation Database

NCSL tracks state legislative action on substance abuse. NCSL's Substance Abuse State Legislation Database contains bill numbers, sponsors, title, text, summaries, and links to bills enacted by the legislatures.

Information generally is updated on a weekly basis while legislatures are in session.  For more information regarding the database, please contact Allison Colker.

Database Description

Each entry contains the following information:

Bill Number: The number assigned to a bill upon introduction to its originating chamber.  This entry is also a link to the full text of the bill.

Sponsor(s): Who introduces the bill before the chamber.

Date of Introduction: When the bill was placed before the chamber for consideration.

Status: How far the measure has proceeded through the legislature.

Title: The title of the bill as used in legislative proceedings.

Summary: A brief description of what the bill addresses and what actions it takes.
