State Energy Efficiency Resource Standards

U.S. energy consumption could increase 0.5 percent a year until 2035.

With a growing U.S. population requiring more commercial buildings and residences to support it, the Energy Information Administration projects energy consumption to increase 0.5 percent a year until 2035.

Many states are considering energy efficiency as a way to reduce energy demand and promote cleaner, cheaper and more reliable energy.Among the tools to accomplish this are installing energy-efficient appliances, furnaces, air conditioners and insulation in homes and commercial buildings. These devices help buildings use less energy without sacrificing comfort.
