State building codes and energy codes play a critical role in reducing energy costs for ratepayers. However, without education and enforcement, energy codes cannot deliver promised energy savings. Although many states have adopted building energy codes, few have been able to consistently enforce them. This webinar will discuss the state legislative role in improving energy and building codes as well as highlight ways states can overcome the challenges of enforcement to get better results. Speakers include a state energy official who will discuss the role of state legislatures and the challenges officials face with the enforcement of energy codes, as well as a specialist from the Building Codes Assistance Project who will discuss best practices for assisting states in achieving better compliance with energy codes.
