Task Force on School Dropout Prevention and Recovery

Overview

Picture of diplomaNCSL's Task Force on Dropout Prevention and Recovery was initiated in August 2009 by former NCSL President, Speaker Joe Hackney from North Carolina.  The task force heard from top researchers about programs that work to improve dropout rates and how state legislatures might bring them to scale. The task force developed a series of recommendations for state legislatures to improve the nation's dropout rates in A Path to Graduation for Every Child:  State Legislative Roles and Responsibilities (January 2011).
