School Leadership

School Leadership is an important education policy issue because research demonstrates that it is second only to teacher quality in its impact on student achievement. Leadership is widely regarded as a key factor in accounting for the difference between underperforming schools and schools that foster student learning.

Today's schools require dynamic, well-trained, talented leaders who understand the social, economic and political forces that influence education; who are committed to fresh ideas and solutions and willing to take risks to implement them; and who have a 21st-century view of education management.

 

Strong schools are led by effective administrators. Now, more than ever, we need strong leaders who are able to maintain a relentless focus on instructional improvement and student achievement, and to inspire the students and staff in their buildings to do the same.
