National Board Certification for Principals

The nation's first advanced certification for principals launches in 2011.

The first voluntary national advanced certification for school principals launches in January 2011. The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS), a nonpartisan organization known for its advanced teacher certification program, is expanding its scope to first certify high-performing principals and then other education leaders, including assistant principals and teacher leaders. The goal of the National Board is to improve teaching and learning by helping states, districts and schools develop, recognize and retain great teachers and principals.
