Education Bill Tracking Database

 

This searchable database tracks education legislation passed by state legislatures from the 2008 session to present. Issues that are tracked include teacher and principals, school choice, higher education/postsecondary education, education finance and funding, religion in schools, high school graduation/dropouts, testing, accountability, afterschool and STEM. Search legislation by state, topic, status, primary sponsor, bill number or keyword.

To select more than one item (e.g., state or category) in the following lists, hold down the Control-key and click the desired selections or, to select all items between two selections, first click on the first item, scroll down the list to the last item and hold the Shift-key while you click on that item.

Click “Bill Text Lookup” to find full legislative texts.
 
“Click for History” will list all bill actions with dates.
 
To return to the searchable database, please scroll to the top of the bills and click on "Return" in the right hand corner.
 
Bills may appear twice with different years in carryover states. “Carryover” refers to legislation that is held over from the first year of a legislative biennium to the second year.

  • 2011-2012 carryover states include AK, CA, DE, GA, HI, IL, IA, KS, ME, MA, MI, MN, NE, NH, NY, NC, OH, OK, PA, RI, SC, TN, VT, WA and WI.
  • 2012-2013 carryover states include NJ and VA.
  • 2013-2014 carryover states include AK, CA, DE, GA, HI, IL, IA, KS, ME, MA, MI, MN, NE, NH, NY, NC, OH, OK, PA, RI, SC, TN, VT, WA, and WI.

In these states, please check the last date of action to ensure the status of the bill reflects the appropriate year.
