Loans and mortgages are common financial transactions consumers participate in throughout their lives. NCSL collects information on state regulation of loans and mortgages, including payday loans, automobile title loans, mortgages, foreclosures and reverse mortgages.

Since 2007 when the housing crisis began, NCSL has tracked legislation regulating foreclosure consultants; foreclosure procedures; emergency assistance programs and hotlines; and protections for tenants who are renting homes facing foreclosure to assist state policymakers who are working to achieve long-term solutions that incorporate the needs of consumers, communities and the financial marketplace.
