NLPES Listserve Sign-Up

The NLPES Listserve is up and running. An e-mail discussion group for NLPES members, this listserve allows a message to be sent to all NLPES e-mail subscribers simultaneously. You and your office can participate by posting "events" you think would be important to the membership (e.g., report publications and executive summaries, new hires, etc.), philosophical audit questions and ideas (when a muse captures a bit of your scant spare time...), and, best of all, questions regarding audits.

About the NLPES Listserve

Well over 10% of our NLPES membership is now "enlisted" on our NLPES Listserve, and that number is growing. More offices are announcing their latest report offerings and there have been numerous people "efficiently and effectively" gathering the basic information necessary to more quickly advance their own research on the topics of the day. States are now using the list server for publication notices of the reports they have issued. E-mail interchanges have also tapped states' research experience on evaluation topics as diverse as forestry studies and regulation of child care facilities to analyses of judicial system caseloads.

How to read past NLPES Listserve messages

For those of you with NCSLnet usernames and passwords, you can access the archived messages (i.e., discussion threads) for the NLPES listserve (as well as for other news groups). Note: At this time, accessing a news group will not register you for any corresponding listserve. In other words, you will have to check the news group to see if new messages have been posted -- the messages will not be e-mailed to you. If you want messages to be e-mailed directly to you, you have to subscribe to the listserve (see above).

"Netiquette" for the NLPES Listserve

Thanks to you, the NLPES Listserve has been relatively free of "party line" banter.  However, when using the listserve, please remember the following:

  • Listserve authors should provide their e-mail address or telephone number for convenience. (If your e-mail software supports a signature line for outgoing mail, that expedient is nearly automatic.)
  • When replying to a listserve e-mail, consider whether you should "broadcast" the response or contact the person directly by personal e-mail or telephone.
