NCSL Health Promotion Program
State Legislation and Statute Database

The Health Promotion Program database includes state legislation on the following topics:

Tobacco

Obesity

Chronic Disease Prevention

Arthritis

Physical Activity

Worksite Wellness

Diabetes Prevention

Nutrition

Heart Disease and Stroke

For cancer legislation, go to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention web page on Cancer Legislative Information.

The database currently includes legislation from all topic areas through the 2003 legislative session. Physical activity bills from the 2004 session are included as well. All entries include brief summaries. Bills include status, sponsor, bill number and chapter number if enacted. To find bills from a specific legislative session, choose "legislation" under Record Type. To find laws passed prior to and during the 2003 legislative session (and physical activity laws passed during the 2004 legislative session), select "all types" under Record Type, and under For Legislation choose "all" for Year and "enacted" for Status.
