The deadline for filing proposed policy statements for consideration at the 2009 Fall Forum is Nov. 28. They should be sent to Carl Tubbesing, NCSL’s deputy executive director.  Proposed policies will posted to the NCSL website by Dec. 2.

Lawmakers Welcome New Citizens

In a historic first, the National Conference of State Legislatures welcomed five new citizens as they are sworn in before the state lawmakers elected to serve them. U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) District Director Karen FitzGerald administered the Oath of Allegiance to America’s newest citizens during a special naturalization ceremony on July 23, 2009, before the more than 5,500 attendees of the NCSL Legislative Summit.
