State Budget and Tax Update: July 2009

The fiscal challenges are enormous, widespread and, unfortunately, far from over.  Lawmakers in virtually every state scrambled to keep their fiscal year FY 2009 budgets balanced while at the same time struggling to enact new ones for FY 2010. Fiscal Year 2010 Budget Status

U.S. FlagForty-six states began their new fiscal year on July 1, 2009.  As the new fiscal year began, 42 states had finalized their budgets. Eight states have had the unenviable task of finalizing budgets after the start of the new fiscal year (Arizona, California, Connecticut, Illinois, Mississippi, North Carolina, Ohio, and Pennsylvania). More
