Legislator Services

As a legislator, you are a member of NCSL.

Today, the nation's 7,382 legislators are creatively confronting the problems that matter most to their constituents. NCSL can help! Take advantage of the full range of benefits and services available to you. We look forward to working with you!

Legislators are entitled to:

NCSL State Liaisons: A personal connection to NCSL and the nation's best policy experts. Your state has an NCSL staff liaison who will help you find the information you need, help you understand all the NCSL resources at your fingertips, and visit your state to meet with you.

Standing Committees: The 12 NCSL Standing Committees allow legislators to benefit from the experiences of other states in shaping public policies, experimenting with new laws, and managing the legislative institution. Standing Committees members are legislators and legislative staff who are appointed by the leadership of the legislatures. These issue-driven committees meet several times a year to discuss state and federal issues, share ideas and guide NCSL’s lobbying efforts in Washington, D.C.

The NCSL Leaders' Center: The center assists legislative leaders in meeting challenges of managing the institution, crafting the best possible public policy, creating consensus out of dissension, communicating with Congress and key administration officials, and protecting and promoting the legislative institution.

NCSL's Women's Legislative Network: The network offers special services, programs and information for women serving in state legislatures. Exclusive access to members-only services. This section of the website is exclusively for our members, subscribers and members of the NCSL Foundation for State Legislatures.

Trust for Representative Democracy: The trust helps legislators tell the story of representative democracy to their constituents and assists members in their efforts to create more informed and engaged citizens. The Trust's Legislators Back to School Program helps legislators teach important lessons to students about the legislative institution and representative democracy.

Publications: NCSL publications are a great resource for the newest and best ideas from the states. State Legislatures magazine is widely hailed as the most informative and influential state public policy monthly in the country. LegisBriefs are two-page briefing papers on current issues that can be used as backgrounders, talking papers and as information for responding to constituent requests. You'll get 48 of them on various topics each year.  NCSL publications, with a few exceptions, are free to legislators and legislative staff.

Register: If you are not registered, register now. To register for your NCSL password, go to the Login/Account Registration tab on the top navigation bar above the banner on the website.
